How to Use Brick-Chain Swap: A Simple, Fast Guide to On-Chain Swaps
New to DeFi or just want a cleaner swap experience? This guide walks you through a first swap on Brick-Chain—step by step, no jargon—and answers the most common questions along the way.
What You Need Before You Start
Brick-Chain Swap runs on Base, an Ethereum Layer-2 that keeps transactions quick and inexpensive. To make your first swap, you’ll need:
- A self-custody wallet — MetaMask or Coinbase Wallet both work great.
- Gas on Base — a bit of ETH (on Base) to pay transaction fees. It’s usually pennies, but you do need a small amount.
- Your starting token — today we support USDC ⇄ WETH on Base. We’re actively adding more pairs through the week.
Note: If your wallet isn’t on Base yet, most wallets will prompt you to add/switch networks automatically. You can also add Base manually from within your wallet’s network settings.
Step 1 — Connect Your Wallet
Head to the app:
Open the Brick-Chain Swap App ↗
- Click Connect Wallet.
- Choose MetaMask or Coinbase Wallet.
- If your wallet isn’t on Base, switch when prompted.

That’s it—you’re ready to swap directly from your wallet. No account, no custodial deposits, no waiting for withdrawals.
Step 2 — Select the Tokens
Use the “From” and “To” selectors to choose the pair you want to trade. Right now, the app supports:
- WETH ⇄ USDC on Base (more tokens are being added throughout the week).
Enter the amount you want to swap. If you click the up/down arrows, you can quickly flip the direction (e.g., USDC → WETH to WETH → USDC).
Step 3 — Review the Quote (Price, Slippage, Fees)
When you enter an amount, Brick-Chain checks decentralized liquidity and returns a real-time quote. Before you click swap, scan these items:
- Expected output: How much of the “To” token you’ll receive.
- Price impact: A small % is normal for liquid pairs; large trades can move markets more.
- Slippage tolerance: The maximum price movement you’ll accept during confirmation. If you’re new, leave the default—only adjust if your transaction is failing, and keep changes modest.
- Network fee (gas): Paid in ETH on Base. It should be low (often cents).
Quick refresher: Slippage protects you from getting a worse price than expected if the market moves between quote and confirmation.
Step 4 — Approve (If Needed) and Swap
Depending on the token you’re swapping from, your wallet may ask for a one-time token approval. This lets the smart contract spend the exact amount you’re trading. After that, the steps are simple:
- Click Approve (if prompted) and confirm in your wallet.
- Click Swap and confirm the transaction in your wallet.
- Wait a few seconds while the transaction is finalized on Base.
We never custody your assets. Swaps execute directly from your wallet against decentralized liquidity.
Step 5 — Confirm and Track Your Transaction
Once confirmed, you’ll see a success message and a transaction link (block explorer) so you can view on-chain details. Your new tokens should appear in your wallet shortly after finality.
- Can’t see the token in your wallet? Add the token to your wallet’s list (import by contract address if needed).
- Balance not updating? Refresh your wallet or wait a few seconds; Base confirms quickly.
Pro Tips for Smooth, Low-Stress Swaps
- Keep a little ETH on Base for gas so you’re never stuck mid-flow.
- Start small for your first swap—prove the path, then size up.
- Watch slippage on volatile tokens; stable pairs usually don’t need high tolerance.
- Stay on Base for low fees and fast confirmations—ideal for frequent swaps.
- Use the same wallet on desktop and mobile (via WalletConnect) if you want continuity on the go.
Troubleshooting: Common Gotchas
Most issues are small and fixable in under a minute. Here are the usual suspects:
- “Insufficient funds for gas” — You need a bit of ETH on Base. Bridge from mainnet or use a CEX withdrawal directly to Base.
- “Allow this site to add Base?” — Click approve. That’s your wallet adding the network configuration.
- Swap keeps failing — Try a modestly higher slippage tolerance, or wait a moment and re-quote.
- Token not visible in wallet — Add the token contract to your wallet’s token list.
- Wrong network — Switch your wallet to Base and re-open the app.
Quick FAQ
Do I need an account?
No. Brick-Chain is on-chain and wallet-first. Connect your wallet and you’re good.
What pairs can I swap?
Today: USDC ⇄ WETH on Base. We’re actively adding more tokens throughout the week—watch for updates on the blog and in-app.
Who holds my assets during the swap?
No one. Your wallet signs transactions that execute against decentralized liquidity. You keep custody at all times.
What are the fees?
You’ll pay a small network fee (gas) in ETH on Base. Quotes show the details you need before confirming.
Is this safe?
DeFi always carries risk, but we focus on clarity and routing to reliable, decentralized liquidity. Start with small swaps, double-check token addresses, and keep your wallet secure.
What’s Next for Brick-Chain
We’re keeping the experience simple to start—one fast, high-volume pair on Base—so the foundation stays rock-solid as volume grows. Over the coming days, we’ll roll out additional tokens, then iterate toward features power users want (more pairs, better routing, and eventually DEX-style functionality).
